Analysis of mtDNA sequence provides valuable information to trace one's maternal heritage, evolution, migration pattern of his ancestors, maternal relationship among individuals, susceptibility to a number of diseases and much more.

MiTEx is a comprehensive tool for analysis of mitochondrial DNA. The tool shall list out all mutations in a sequence of interest, with reference to a standard sequence. The tool shall find out mitochondrial haplogroup and indicate regions of occurrence in world map. Information regarding age and origin, migration patterns of the haplogroup are also incorporated. The tool can also assign more specific subhaplogroups to input sequences. It shall also indicate coding and control region mutations and disease associations if any. The tool can compare two mtDNA sequences to identify potential relationships.
